About the Program

Diachronic Linguistics in the 21st Century is a comprehensive blended-learning programme combining online and face-to-face instruction. This CIVIS course brings together students from across Europe for an intensive study of historical linguistics, ancient languages, and modern computational methods.

The program consists of an online Spring School in April, continuous online workshops, and culminates in an intensive 40-hour face-to-face Summer School on the beautiful island of Naxos, Greece in July 2025.

5th Edition: This is the 5th successful edition of this CIVIS Blended Learning Course. Previous editions have welcomed students from across the CIVIS network, creating a vibrant international community of scholars interested in diachronic linguistics.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a fully enrolled student at a CIVIS member university
  • Enrollment must be current during the programme dates (April-July 2025)
  • Previous knowledge in Humanities, Linguistics, or Languages required
  • Advanced Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD level

Summer School in Naxos

The face-to-face component takes place during the 10th Naxos Summer School on Diachronic Linguistics, offering an intensive and immersive experience on the beautiful Greek island of Naxos.

Students will benefit from 40 hours of in-person instruction, workshops, networking opportunities, and the unique cultural experience of studying in the Cyclades.
