International peer-reviewed open-access journal on language contact phenomena
GLOSSA Contact is an international peer-reviewed open-access journal dedicated to research on language contact phenomena. It is hosted at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), with Prof. Nikolaos Lavidas as one of the three Co-Editors-in-Chief. The journal publishes research articles on structural borrowing, contact-induced change, multilingualism, written language contact, translation studies, and areal linguistics.

Scope
The journal welcomes submissions employing diverse methodological approaches, from traditional comparative-historical methods to contemporary corpus-based and computational techniques. Special interest is given to research on contact through translation and written-language borrowing, two of the lab's core themes.
Topics within scope include, with examples in parentheses:
- Structural borrowing, the transfer of grammatical structure across languages in sustained contact (for example, the borrowing of analytic-tense morphology across the Balkan Sprachbund).
- Contact-induced change, language change attributable to contact rather than to internal motivation (for example, the rise of the periphrastic perfect under contact pressure).
- Multilingualism, theoretical and empirical study of speakers and communities who routinely use more than one language.
- Written-language contact, contact phenomena specific to written registers, where literacy and prestige mediate borrowing (the lab's flagship area).
- Translation studies, contact effects in translated texts, including biblical, literary, and technical translation across the historical record.
- Areal linguistics, the comparative study of language areas in which neighbouring languages share grammatical features through long-term contact.
Submissions
Submissions are reviewed by the editorial board and by at least one external reviewer in the area of the submission. Submission guidelines, the editorial board, and the list of published articles are on the journal's main website at https://glossacontact.org.
Relationship to the lab
The journal is editorially independent of the lab. The journal is the broader open-access venue for contact-linguistics research at NKUA, while the GlossaContactLab Working Papers, digital edition self-publishes the lab's pre-prints and launch reports.
